The Power of Hair Donation: Personal Journey to Giving Back

In this busy life do we stop to appreciate the gifts we are given? Our health, our hair? I have been blessed with thick hair that grows quickly. Seeing this gift, I know that I can use this power for good. I have had the pleasure of donating my hair three times to Children With Hair Loss. That number would be much higher if I knew this organization existed sooner! Which is why I want to give you more information today so you could weigh your options for the future. We’ll dive into the importance of donating your hair to organizations like Children with Hair Loss and guide you through the process.

I was first led to Children With Hair Loss (CWHL) after delivering my first child. As so many of us mom’s do I had grown my hair out, thanks to the powerful prenatal vitamins, and it was time for a trim or in my case a hack! I had always wanted to donate to Locks of Love but was frustrated because they would not except color treated hair. Thankfully my knowledgeable hair stylist informed me about CWHL. How fitting as I had just had a little girl of my own and had the deepest of sympathies for what hair loss would mean for young girls.

Why Donate Your Hair?

You might wonder, “Why should I donate my hair?” Well, donating your hair is a beautiful way to show support and bring joy to children who are experiencing hair loss due to medical conditions like cancer, alopecia, and other diseases. By giving them the gift of a natural hair wig, you can help boost their self-esteem, restore their confidence, and bring a smile to their faces during a challenging time.

Choosing Children with Hair Loss Organization

One organization that has been doing outstanding work in this field is Children with Hair Loss. This non-profit organization provides high-quality human hair wigs to children and young adults, completely free of charge. Their mission is to empower these children and help them regain their sense of self.

CWHL provides more flexibility than other organizations in that they will take color treated and gray hair. They will accept as little as 8″ of hair though they suggest providing 12″ or more as this is their most popular length request.

The Donation Process

So, you’re ready to make a difference? Fantastic! Here’s a step-by-step guide to donating your hair to Children with Hair Loss Organization:

Check the Requirements: Start by reviewing the specific donation requirements set by CWHL.

Preparing for Donation: Once you’ve confirmed your hair meets the length requirement, it’s time to prep for donation. Make sure your hair is clean, dry, and free of styling products. If you have long hair, consider dividing it into multiple ponytails to make cutting easier.

Find a Salon: Look for a salon that is familiar with hair donation procedures. Some salons even offer free or discounted haircuts if you inform them about your donation intention. Discuss your plans with the stylist and explain the specific requirements from CWHL.

Chop, Chop! Get ready for the big moment. Take a deep breath, and let your stylist know you want to donate your hair. Ensure they cut your hair above the rubber band or hair tie to avoid any damage to the donated hair. Don’t forget to thank your stylist for being part of this incredible journey!

Packaging and Mailing: Once your hair is cut, put it in a plastic bag or envelope to keep it safe during transit. Include your contact information and the salon’s details. Check CWHL’s website for the mailing address and any additional forms or information they require.

Go the Extra Mile: If you can afford to monetarily send a donation as well that would great! As the wig making process is very expensive and the children’s families don’t have to pay a dime. If you have heart for this charity, but can’t grow the hair or it will be a while before you can physically donate. Here is a link where you can send a monetary donation today.

Celebrate and Spread the Word: Congratulations! You’ve just made a positive impact on someone’s life. Share your experience on social media, using hashtags like #hairdonation #childrenwithhairloss or #cutpasslove. Encourage your friends and family to join this worthy cause.

Takeaway

Donating your hair to organizations like Children with Hair Loss is a remarkable act of kindness that can truly make a difference in the lives of children facing hair loss. By providing them with a natural hair wig, you help restore their self-confidence and bring smiles to their faces during difficult times. So, if you’re ready for a fresh look and an opportunity to change lives, take that step, make that donation, and let your hair be a symbol of hope and support.

Remember, a small act of kindness can have a tremendous impact on someone’s life!
