For some the decision comes easy. For others it’s a constant pull of am I doing the right thing? Stay at home mom (SAHM), work out of the home mom (WOHM), working from home mom (WFHM). Deciding what your working mom path truly is can take time and there is no right answer.
One thing I have learned, and you should walk away from this article knowing, is that whatever you feel led to choose IT will be OK. Your kids will be loved, and they will not feel deprived. That feeling is a feeling that is felt in you, they have no expectations. They just need your love. So now it’s up to meeting your needs.
Through Out History
For the better part of history moms were SAHM’s no questions asked. Then with women’s rights movement there was a huge swing in the pendulum and many women became WOHM’s. Nowadays we have a new acronym to add to the mix WFHM. The words are fresh, but the concept is not.
For many centuries there have been women who have worked to bring in extra income while they were also SAHM’s. Today, thanks in large part to the internet, it is just easier to do this, so you are seeing the pendulum swing again with a mass exit from traditional jobs.
My Experience
I have been a mom for almost 8 years now, and when I tell you that I have struggled to find my mom path, the struggle has been real! I always loved working and I always loved being right there with my babies. I couldn’t find my balance.
When my daughter was born, I worked out with my company the ability to work 4-10’s. Which allowed me to have 3 days home with her. When my son was born, I took a year off to truly live the SAHM life. Then neutrally returned to work after the year was up. I didn’t want to give up my flexibility with the kids, but I also missed aspects of work.
It was a constant tug at my heart. Many prayers were said and looking back God took me down this path for a reason. However, I feel as though this new era of WFHM life is MY perfect solution.
I have the flexibility to meet my kids where they are at when they need me. However, I’m still able to build and grow a business that I put my heart into. A business that will open many doors for my family in the future.
I know that I’m very fortunate to be able to do what I’m doing without the hassle of a 9-5 job. While I’m figuring out my business my husband’s salary is enough to keep us afloat. I know many don’t have this luxury, I don’t want to discount that.
However, I do want you to know that if you are struggling with the current mom path you are on. No matter which ends of the spectrum you are on. There are ways out there to have a happy medium.
Takeaway
Not all look like my journey; digital download creator, blogger, soon-to-be course creator. You can go remote, freelance, be a virtual assistant, make things to sell, or be a social media content creator. The options are endless. However, please note that the get rich quick mentality rarely works and if you are not willing to put in the work then you will not reap the benefits. Especially in a flooded marketplace.
Everything is not equal but, sweet friend, if you are unhappy with your current situation don’t diminish your joy any longer. Do some soul searching. Figure out what lights you up and go after it. You’ve got this!
